How to Find (or Reset) Your MT5 Investor Password
To connect MetaTrader 5 to a trading journal safely, you use the investor password, not your main one. It is the read-only key to your account: it can view everything and change nothing. Here is exactly what it is, where to find it, and how to reset it if you never saved it.
Master password vs investor password
Every MetaTrader 5 account has two passwords, and the difference matters. Knowing which one to hand over is the whole point of connecting safely.

Where to find your investor password
- Check your broker's welcome email. When your MT5 account was created, most brokers emailed you both the master and investor passwords. Search your inbox for the account number.
- Look in your broker's client area or dashboard. Many brokers show or let you reset the investor password in the account settings on their website.
- If you set it yourself when opening the account, it may be saved in your password manager alongside the login.
How to reset it in the MT5 desktop terminal
If you cannot find it, set a fresh one. This takes under a minute on the desktop platform:
- Open MetaTrader 5 on desktop and make sure you are logged in to the account.
- In the Navigator panel on the left, right-click your account number and choose Change Password.
- Select the option for the investor (read-only) password, not the master password.
- Set a new password, confirm, and save it. That is the password you enter in TradePulse.

Is it safe to give a journal my investor password?
